By developing racquet technologies in weight distribution, shaft, frame shape and cap, the ASTROX 100 enables access to power that controls the quick changes of pace in the game.
The innovative Rotational Generator System, introduced through the ASTROX series earlier, has been further enhanced for the ASTROX 100. More precise weight distribution throughout the grip end, frame top and the joint increases the rotational power. These enhancements ensure the momentum for quicker consecutive shots. Namd*1, which produces more flex and a faster snapback, is used throughout the frame and shaft, unleashing dramatic steep power. The synergy created from the Rotational Generator System enables continuous powerful attacks.
The already slim shaft has been modified utilizing a high-quality graphite material, creating the slimmest shaft*2 to date in Yonex. It provides a smoother follow-through by reducing air resistance and generates rotational power through more flex and a faster snapback.
The original ISOMETRIC frame has also evolved into a more ISOMETRIC shape, expanding the sweet spot. Designed for reduced power loss from off-center shots, the 2.9% larger sweet spot increases power.
Viktor AXELSEN (Denmark), CHOU Tien Chen (Taiwan), Akane YAMAGUCHI (Japan) and other #TeamYonex athletes will make their debut using the new ASTROX 100 ZZ during the 2020 season.
INNOVATION
Common technologies throughout the ASTROX 100 series.
1. Expanded Sweet Spot in Modified Frame
Compared to regular round frames, Yonex’s original ISOMETRIC frame creates a wider sweet spot. The ASTROX 100 frame has been slightly modified into an even more square-like shape, increasing the already wide sweet spot by 2.9%*1, while maintaining the same overall frame size. Benefits of this evolved ISOMETRIC shape include increased power on strong and continuous shots even if they don’t hit the center of the racquet.
2. Newly Designed Cap: E.B.CAP PLUS
A new structure reduces shaft twisting and increases its flexibility. Thumb fitting shape transmits even more power to the shuttle.
3. Advanced Rotational Generator System
The new innovative Rotational Generator System precisely distributes weight to the top of the frame, joints, and the end of the racquet grip.
In ASTROX 100 ZZ, Black Micro Core material at the top of the frame increases rigidity by 4% and vibration absorption by 2%*1. While the use of Black Micro Core material puts more weight on the head of the frame. A new built-in T-joint, which is 1.3%*1 lighter than any other Yonex racquet, allows the racquet to have a lower weight distribution. By redesigning the racquet’s weight distribution in this manner, high rotational power needed for strong continuous smashes is generated.
4. Improved Swing-ability and Resilience: Slim Shaft
ASTROX 100 ZZ : Hyper Slim Shaft
Designed with the slimmest shaft in the history of Yonex racquets*1, this ASTROX model, traditionally hollow inside, uses graphite material in the core, resulting in an 11.8%*1 reduction in air resistance. By making the shaft solid, resilience is increased, further allowing strong continuous shots.
5. Revolutionary New Graphite Namd
By utilizing high quality Namd graphite throughout the shaft and frame of both models more flex is produced with a faster snapback, unleashing dramatic steep power. The material stays flexible even with increased swing speed, bending when swing speed increases and restoring its original hard shape at the end of the swing. The ability to bend even further and snap back rapidly, produces stronger shots and greater smash speeds.

Background:
I'm in my early 60's, but only started playing from mid-40s. Considered an intermediate club player, with some physical limitations.Play 2-3 times and train once a week.
Been looking for a racket to improve my power from back court, without compromising too much in speed, defensive responses, and net control.
Playing Style:
Strong front court, defensive player.
Rackets:
Mostly Yonex rackets; Arc11 is the regular staple racket(3U). Tried a couple of APACS with no luck.
Tried i-Force(5U); Z-Force2(4U); Astrox77(1st Gen)(4U); Nanoflare700(4U); Arc10(4U)
String:
BG 66 Ultimax (23-24lbs).
Review of ASTROX100ZZ:
Been reading lots of reviews, and no different for this racket. But first time writing :)
Reading and comparing the specs, esp with the ones I've used, I wouldn't have considered this at all. Although I'm looking for a head heavy racket; the extra stiff shaft put me off - I couldn't wield Z-Force2 nor Astrox77. My shoulders would be tired after a game or 2; and my defense would be too slow. But I had a chance to try this racket and seems different. Hence took the plunge and bought 2 of these.
First time using this was at training, sparring with my coach. My clears and smashes have obvious improvements. Best is it seems effortless. Even my backhand, the worst of all my shots, has markedly improve, be it clear or smashes. Even my coach noticed the difference with all my shots.
PROS:
Clears, esp attacking clears, and smashes are definitely a lot more powerful and easier. That's without extra effort. (This means I have a lot more room to improve if I make an effort.) This must be the combination of head-heavy balance and the thinness of the shaft to make that whipping effect more prominent.
Drives and backhands are great as well. Again the flexible shaft probably helps. Can also feel the racket is slightly longer.
Drop shots are just as easy. Can feel the racket doing most of the work. So I just concentrate on my technique.
Back-court and mid-court play requires little adjustment. A couple of games and felt fairly comfortable with this racket. Actually loving it as it really helped my game.
CONS:
I felt my response in defense is slightly slower. Maybe the slightly longer racket has something to do with it.
Net control also requires to get used to.
I'm unable to make use of the "Energy Boost Cap Plus" as I haven't been able to hold the racket near the cap at all, let alone using it. With my Arc11, I normally have my thumb around the cap during serve and net play. Somehow this didn't happen with this racket.
Will need some more time to get used to the front-court play.
CONCLUSION:
Very happy with the purchase. Definitely worth my while buying this racket. Been looking for a racket to replace my Arc11 for over 6 years. It's been a great racket, just wanted more and this Ax100ZZ gave me what I wanted.
Hopefully it'll my last racket.
PS. Steve is a great guy. Pleasure doing business with him (Badminton Supplies). Ordered late Wed nite and got them Tue morning (in WA)!
